Maidens Barn wedding by documentary and journalistic wedding photographer Essex

As a documentary and journalistic wedding photographer Surrey I often have the pleasure of capturing weddings at lovely Barn wedding venues and this beautiful Maidens Barn wedding was no exception! Maidens Barn is an authentic barn wedding venue, dating back from 1806 with a rural setting but yet offering all the luxurious features and modern style for a perfect barn wedding. Abi & Mandeep’s wedding day was extra special because we go quite a long way back… to 2016 to be precise, when I had the pleasure of capturing Abi’s sister Ashleigh’s wedding in the Netherlands. They are lovely girls and – as back then – today was equally warm & welcoming, it was a treat to see everyone again!

In preparation of the wedding, we had also done a pre-wedding shoot (aka couple session or engagement photo shoot) a few months earlier, a great way to ease any pre-wedding nerves and to just hang out, have some fun and end up with some lovely shots!

Almost all of my couples love the idea of having a second photographer at their wedding, so that the story of the day can be told in the most complete way possible, from different angles but with images that blend in seamlessly. Abi & Mandeep also loved this idea, so my second shooter and I started the day by capturing bride & groom preps at two different locations. Of course there was a lot of fun and laughter as both bride and groom had all their bridesmaids and groomsmen by their side, which is great to capture in my usual authentic style as a documentary and journalistic wedding photographer Essex. What a great way to start the day!

The beautiful barn wedding ceremony was held in the Oak Barn, with its beamed roof and french doors, looking out onto the stunning outside view.

Maidens Barn is set in the beautiful Essex countryside and therefore there were plenty of lovely spots where we could capture some natural, unposed and authentic bride & groom portraits.

The gorgeous Elm Barn – the oldest part of Maidens Barn – was the setting of the wedding breakfast which was of course also the setting of some heartfelt speeches by the father of the bride, best man and groom. So many emotions!

The wedding celebrations continued into the night with a wonderful opening dance by bride & groom after which the party really kicked off!

Before heading off home, I asked the couple if they were up for one last shot of them at the venue, with some extra lighting added to capture the atmosphere of the evening and I’m delighted to say they were, so we ended up with these two closing shots of the lovely couple. Dear Abi & Mandeep, I wish you all the happiness and love in the world and hope you will enjoy your wedding images for many many years to come!
